About The Chapter

Project Girls for Girls Uzbekistan has had a monumental few years. After a revitalisation in 2022, the executive team has expanded and now has a wealth of members based in Uzbekistan and abroad that work to build a solid network for girls and women across the country. As of now, the team has run and graduated four cohorts that span multiple age groups. In addition to creating new spheres through these cohorts, G4G Uzbekistan has established an alumni network where updates are frequent and support is unconditional.
Our chapter recently graduated its fourth cohort, which targeted women above eighteen years of age. After completing three cohorts dedicated to the demographic of women about to enter university, the team switched gears to women looking to enter the workforce. The completion of this cohort has seen our executive team expand further and our network reach even more remote areas of Uzbekistan.
Going forward, the executive team has set its sights on working more with women above the age of eighteen. We will continue to deconstruct the patriarchal norms of Uzbek society one mentee at a time and encourage women to pursue leadership roles. Our chapter has also seen great success in running bonus sessions at the end of each cohort; examples of these include looking for employment in the tech world and writing applications to universities abroad. We look to continue these bonus sessions, thereby keeping the lines of communication open with women below eighteen.

Pillar 1

Inclusive Mentorship

Our Chapter’s greatest accomplishment in the context of Inclusive Mentorship has been our tireless commitment to identifying new mentors and training them to join our team. We boast a group of dedicated, skilled, and personable mentors that have been invaluable to our project as we continue to undertake cohorts.

Pillar 2

Insights & Inspiration

In discussing Insights & Inspiration, we would like to highlight the bonus sessions that our chapter runs. We have had guest speakers from all over the world talk through their experiences in higher education, working abroad, and work in specific fields. Our most recent bonus session, “Educational Experiences”, highlighted the process of applying for scholarships and securing internal and external funding at university.

Pillar 3

Impactful Network

Our chapter prioritises having roots in Uzbekistan. Many members of our executive continue to do groundwork across the country, and they are supplemented by the online efforts of members living abroad. We have worked with a number of Uzbek organisations and NGOs to expand our network and cultivate a community of young women in areas from Fergana to Tashkent. Against all odds, our primarily-online team have had reunions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and of course, in Uzbekistan, strengthening the internal bonds of our G4G mentors. Going forward, we hope to connect with other chapters in person.

Words From Our Member

"

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the initial, grassroots rumblings of the Uzbekistan chapter. As a student abroad, I acknowledge that the immeasurable support of my community has brought me to where I am. My ambition has been nurtured in a way that is foreign to many girls in my home country; as such, I feel an obligation to harness my privilege and give back to my community. Having grown up in a variety of countries, I value G4G for allowing me to maintain contact with my roots in Uzbekistan. As I look to begin my postgraduate studies, I will continue to centre G4G in my ethos.
