My name is Taboka Bathoeng, currently a Political Science and Public Administration student at the University of Botswana, an active volunteer, and the founder of SHE+, a university club empowering women in Politics, Education, Health, and Career Development. I also serve as the Events and Programs Coordinator at DITZ Foundation, supporting orphaned tertiary students. My work is aligned with community engagement and development, women and AGYW empowerment, youth empowerment and health.
The Girls for Girls Mentorship Program (Online Cohort 2024) has profoundly impacted me both personally and professionally. Through lessons on trust-building, self-advocacy, leadership, and political participation, I have become more intentional about my growth, taking up space, trusting my decisions, and seizing opportunities. Since joining the program, I have volunteered more, pursued leadership roles, and secured life-changing opportunities, including:
Interning at the Ukraine Embassy in Botswana, becoming the first-ever university student to do so without prior qualifications. Launching Sisterhood, Health and Empowerment Plus (SHE+) at my university, creating a safe space for women’s empowerment. Becoming an events and program coordinator at Ditz Foundation, an official NGO in Botswana that empowers orphans.
Girls for Girls has strengthened my confidence, leadership, and advocacy skills, empowering me to shape my own path. I am deeply grateful for this transformative experience! This has empowered me to also share my skills and knowledge with others so that they are more intentional about their lives.
